Before the days when controlling solely female characters in a video game was the norm (thanks to Lara Croft), comes a pseudo-sequel to the popular X-Men and X-Men 2 for the Genesis, titled X-Women.
The game follows the same formula established by its predecessors, except the player controls an all-female team from the pages of the comic series. But, like many other titles that were announced for the Genesis during its twilight years (the company behind the console, Sega, dropped development for several games midstream to concentrate on their newest platform, Saturn), X-Women was never released.

Hmm was it really so hopeless?
We had a version of the X-Men game-- Jakks Pacific Marvel - X-MEN Mutant Reign TV Plug & Play Video Game System." Our boy got into it for a bit. It;s a bit repetitive, but it seems to me that part of the game included something like what you posted here since Storm was one of the characters.
Anyways, most of these games were released for profit (aren't they all) and perhaps it was a demographic problem at the time. Nowadays of course gaming is fairly up in the air as far as gender, but that wasn't always the case.
